AlisonW - The .com test site

This site is currently being redeveloped. Although it will work fine it will continue to look terrible for a while yet. Sorry!

I was talking with a friend on the phone yesterday and telling her that I've worked out what my mind sometimes gets up to when I'm not really looking: It suffers its own form of DDoS attack. Superego v id, perhaps.

In the computer world, a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) occurs when lots of activity from multiple systems floods the bandwidth or resources of a targeted system. Usually that means one or more web servers – when you hear on the news of a website being 'forced down' this is what has often happened – and it takes some time before the system recovers sufficiently to respond normally.

Except in my head my mind sometimes runs away with itself; I start thinking about a number of things I'll be working on at the same time and sortof 'fall over myself' with all the ideas clashing at once. The result is that my brain seems to decide to stop for a while and demands the rest of me to do likewise. Sometimes this might mean going and reading a book instead, or to go and do the washing up!

It is an interesting way to look at things though. I've always been very good at searching through the options and finding solutions – I had such a reputation with many past employers as someone who would 'worry' the right solution to the top. But I'm not sure it is always the best way to keep one's concentration when working on multiple concurrent projects …
