AlisonW - The .com test site

This site is currently being redeveloped. Although it will work fine it will continue to look terrible for a while yet. Sorry!

I have – 90 hours after submitting the ticket! – had a response from twitter support regarding the suspension of my main account there (@AlisonW). It seems that it was, in fact, the content of the tweet I partially redacted in my earlier post. The accusation was that "Your account has been suspended for posting an individuals private information such as private email address, physical address, telephone number or financial documents. ", which I found I disagreed with, so have written a reply:

Thanks for getting back to me.

I acknowledge that I did post *contact* information for someone in tweet #462080089586401 - this was (a) not confidential in any way, being a matter of public record (in the succeeding tweet #462087285460173 I detailed the online source of that information, stating "See for basis") and (b) it is not 'private' information, being a publicly-accessible business address for service of documents and not a home address. This was all part of a discussion between the original (and, as I understand it, future) user of the handle "girlgeeks" - at that time having been moved to the handle "girlgeeks_" - and this information was directed to her (for which she subsequently thanked me) though I was unable to make it a single-user reply running out of characters. She has, I have been advised, subsequently had her original handle returned.

I certainly understand the principle of maintaining all *private* information about a user of your service in a secure and confidential manner and have never and would never publish such information, either on twitter or elsewhere. If I was wrong in presuming that public information freely accessible to all (ie. without registration, fee, etc) may not be republished on twitter then my apologies for any misunderstanding.

Given that one of the great successes of Twitter has been the rapid promulgation of existing information from a wide range of websites – usually zipping around the globe via retweets – then I'm somewhat at a loss to understand their point of view of objecting to my copying some information from a public UK Government website, but hopefully my account will return shortly.
